The advice 4th years give younger BME Majors is ... get involved with
undergraduate research, and get involved early!
Although it's never too late to start, the sooner research-minded
undergraduates begin to hone in on their interests, the sooner they
can take advantage of the many opportunities U.Va. has to offer. The
links on this page will guide you through the process of "networking,
inquiring and following-up" to find the best match between you and a
potential research mentor and lab.
By the summer before 4th year, 85% of BME majors at the University of
Virginia have had significant hands-on experience outside the
classroom: 10% did an NIH or NSF summer program; 30% an industry
internship; and 50% an independent research project in conjunction
with ongoing U.Va. faculty research [based on the Class of 2006].
