SRI International (SRI) is an independent, nonprofit research institute conducting partner-sponsored research and development with government agencies, commercial businesses, foundations, and other organizations. SRI also brings its innovations to the marketplace through partnerships and licenses its intellectual property to create new ventures. For more than 60 years, SRI.s world-leading expertise and passion for working with clients and partners on important challenges has led to the discovery and development of many products that touch our daily lives today. SRI is well known for its legacy of innovations in pharmaceuticals and health sciences, computing, communications and networks, economic development and science and technology policy, education, energy and the environment, engineering systems, homeland security and national defense, and materials and structures. The Commonwealth of Virginia invited SRI to establish a research center in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. SRI Shenandoah Valley (SRI SV) was established at Harrisonburg on January 2, 2007 and the new center commenced operations on January 24, 2007 from its interim facilities in Burruss Hall at James Madison University.
Initially, work at SRI SV will focus on cutting-edge pharmaceutical research through the establishment of the Center for Advanced Drug Research (CADRE). CADRE scientists will research new diagnostics, therapeutics, and vaccines for infectious and neglected diseases and generally for biodefense. SRI SV will have the unique capability to combine SRI.s expertise in drug discovery, computational biology and pre-clinical development with the newly formed proteomic laboratory to develop cures for neglected infectious diseases that ravage a significant portion of the world.s population. Using proteomics to understand host-pathogen interactions focused toward discovery and development of new biomarkers, diagnostics and therapies, will form the cornerstone of our activity at CADRE.
