Graduate students:

Matthew A. Oberhardt (mao9j@virginia.edu)

Matthew is a rising fifth-year graduate student focusing on computational modeling and experimental characterization of the relationship between bacterial metabolism and virulence. His research focuses on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen renowned for its high antibiotic resistance and its danger to cystic fibrosis patients and immunocompromised individuals. He majored in physics at UVa, and decided to stay in Charlottesville for graduate study. Outside of lab, he is an avid rockclimber and lover of the outdoors.

Detailed CV

Arvind Chavali (arvind@virginia.edu)

Arvind is a third-year graduate student in biomedical engineering at the University of Virginia.  He is passionate about the use of computational modeling to help understand and gain insight into disease progression inside of the human body.  He is also an avid badminton player, and he has played in several tournaments including the Boston Open, D.C. Open, and the Junior Internationals in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Paul Jensen (paj2s@virginia.edu)

Paul is a second-year biomedical engineering graduate student at the University of Virginia. His research focuses on mathematical methods for integrated analysis of metabolism and regulation. Paul received degrees in biomedical and chemical engineering at the University of Minnesota and enjoys backpacking and canoeing in his spare time.

Kevin D'Auria (kd3jd@virginia.edu)

Kevin is a first year biomedical engineering graduate student. Before coming to UVA, he studied biomedical engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His current research is focused on the host response to bacterial toxins. Apart from academics and research, he enjoys the outdoors and playing almost any sport for which he finds time.

Bioinformatics Specialist:

Sudhir Chowbina(sudhir.cr@gmail.com)

Sudhir is the Bioinformatics Specialist at the CSBL. He is responsible for building a database of Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) data sets and a web-accessible interface. He is also engaged in analyzing cancer cell profiling data to classify melanomas and discover novel signaling pathways. Sudhir has completed his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology and a masters degree in Bioinformatics. Besides programming and research, Sudhir enjoys hiking and playing badminton in his free time.

Undergraduate students:

Michael Saravo (mts5x@virginia.edu)

Michael is currently a third-year computer engineering undergraduate student at the University of Virginia.  He is interested in work-flow management, specifically the integration of technology in the medical field.  He has built and currently manages a Linux cluster for the lab, and he has designed and coded a database application for a lab project.

Joe Klembczyk (jjk3m@virginia.edu)

Joe is a second year undergraduate biomedical engineer at the University of Virginia. He is enthusiastic about mathematical modeling within immunology, specifically the transcriptional regulatory network of Leishmania major. Joe hopes to attend medical school in his home state of North Carolina following his undergraduate experience. Outside of biomedical engineering, he is a serious pick-up basketball and soccer player.
